Learning To Cope With Cowardice + Lost Tapes

So with a deep look back in time (36 years now) here is an exciting Reissue I’ve been looking forward to since I read about it. Not just another Collection of b-sides and new mixes but a whole Compilation of unreleased outtakes is included now with the Maffia debut album before the classic Wimbish / McDonald / LeBlanc trio aided Mark Stewart.
See a newly made Video for “Liberty City” here.
The regularly over-used term ‘groundbreaking’ is finally used for once justified on this album which was/is a mutant melting of dub, industrial, anarcho free-style attitude with a singer who could sing but choose not to and lyrics which where not pretentious but worthy to chew upon years after years.

The original version of “The Paranoia Of Power”:

(from “The Lost Tapes” Compilation)

>> Mark Stewart himself perceives The Lost Tapes as a document that now possesses a storied significance: “It was a real adventure discovering this forbidden history, a twisted tale of Muswell hillbillies, French pirates and a Dutch schizophrenic doctor doing psychic archaeology.” Whilst Adrian Sherwood describes these works as characteristic of a distinct primitivism: “[The Lost Tapes represent] the early childhood of the songs before Mark and me conducted frenzied, scorched earth, slash-and-burn, twenty-hour mental, manic editing sessions at Crass’ studios that led to birthing the finished album.” << Info from Mute.com

There is also an Vinyl 2LP Edition, in black or clear with DL Code available directly via mutebank . Digitally the lost tapes are also available on it’s own via iTunes or Amazon.

Ornithology

After some promising teasers at soundcloud by Cousin Silas, a gifted guitarist and musician from Huddersfield the full album of his collaboration with Glove Of Bones is now available for free at Bristol’s digital dizzy Netlabel. Some more info and the possibility to obtain a limited hardcopy can be found easily per the Glove Of Bones home.

Glove Of Bones

Which is actually how I found about these as there are more interesting publications by A4+ of Glove Of Bones heading into the ambient / experimental / electronica and non-electronica field with a very own and original approach to enjoy either as “name your price” digital release or as physical well crafted, handmade and obviously limited art editions.

Style Scott R.I.P.

style scott

Recently and suddenly gone is the semi-legendary Dub Syndicate mainforce & long-time On-U Collaborator Style Scott. October 11th the news reached me that these gentle percussive force which actually played on 41 releases I own and 27 I want (according to discogs stats) among countless others died.

Lincoln “Style” Scott 1955 – 2014 by Freak Ass E on Mixcloud

Style Scott was maybe best know for playing with The Dub Syndicate but he was also an integral part of nearly all early On-U Bands and projects i.e. Creation Rebel, Singers & Players, New Age Steppers and Playgroup and worked with nearly everyone centred around Adrian Sherwood’s Label one way or another in a supportive and non-egocentric way which shows due to the only Album actually featuring his name upfront is a collaborative one with Bill Laswell from 1997. Needless to say I gave it another spin while realizing what a untimely loss his death means.
