Life Is A Cut-Up – Clunk’s Psyche

“This is the first album by CLUNK. All the album deals with the concept of other dimensions… also the one we’ll go to when we’ll finish our days on this planet.”

After an EP in 2025 and 2 singles preceeding this one Maurizio Pustianaz’s latest project released it’s first album now : ‘Psyche’. Recorded between 2024 – 2026 in the Noisebrigade Studio, Turin, Italy produced and conceived with the aid of only Amarene as guest singer on the gorgeous ‘Levitate’ which has an unexpected irrestible summer groove..

While Maurizio is a well known producer, mastering engineer & musician in the post-industrial & experimental field f.e. as Gerstein here he moves farer away from any categories he is known for even than his synth-pop outlet A New Life does – he touches New Wave, House, Electronica and as he says also late 70’s Sheffield, Detroit Techno and EBM.

But what sounds a bit confused after reading the style assemblage is in fact a continuous flow of electronic tracks which supplement each other and build a listening with proper mood curves from ‘Shadows’ to ‘End Hits’.

Indeed this (W. S. Burroughs influenced) track is the most experimental, the overall sound is driving, melancholic but optimistic at once – which is a success hardly achieved. The sound picture overall works very well setting up a timeless zone so there is’nt anything stopping you to get lost in repeated listening – the essence of many years lived through electronic futures without getting stuck.

The album (and the dl) includes further liner notes and is also published as LP, black and in turquoise splatter which makes it an extra joy to listen to.

A Prison Of Measured Time (Isolation in Italy and beyond)

As my thoughts go to the catastrophe in progress which hardly leaves anyone unaffected now I like many others found more time than usual to takea look how some of the musicians I follow react to it and deal with the situation of quarantine and isolation.

Not sure if this ambient experimental work by DsorDNE with Onda Lunga was recorded in hindsight of the current overall mood but it’s quite impressive transmitting a special mood;

Due the unforeseen time he had on his hands Maurizio Pustianaz aka Gerstein remastered some of his elder recordings and reissued them via his bandcamp. Two fine examples are shown below.

Also the gorgeous “Colonna D’Aria” Compilation from Snowdonia (Reissued as SP 002 several years ago) is now professionally remastered online @ Klappstuhl Records – featuring exclusive Gerstein and DsorDNE tracks hidden in one long flow of early late 80’s Italian eclectic underground music.

Ex-Italian ‘Superstars’ PANKOW are giving away their latest re(re-)leases on the Canadian Artoffact label as “pay what you want” for the time being, as do most of this label’s artists currently, among them the incredible and unforgotten Nash The Slash (R.I.P.).

Directly responding to the current pandemic is Amplify 2020 -an online action initiated by Jon Abbey of Erstwhile Records – free downloads of musical pieces created especially during this time as direct reaction. Submissions are still open for those interested to participate.

The Black Box EP – Gerstein

After pestering Maurizio Pustianaz for a while he finally sent me a batch of early (1986) session tracks to choose from for an exclusive Klappstuhl Records release and here it is; minimal, raw and remiscent of the cold 80’s mood, still influenced by the earlier industrial experimental scene – think of Robert Rental, Konstruktivists or The Elephant Table Album for some slight touchpoints.

Dada Dada Ist ? – GERSTEIN

A new track taken from a forthcoming release by Gerstein (Maurizio Pustianaz) of Noisebrigade / A New Life / …. has just been released shortly after his highly recommended compilation 32 Years Of Rain which gives a great overview of all the periods he went through since he actively made and published own works – from early Industrial / Minimal Electronics to Piano Works, Post – EBM / Technoid / Darkwave and various Collaborative Works. Early ltd. tape only releases are also present here as later CD or Digital only releases . A few remixes and unreleased tracks make this even more interesting to follow him on his journey through the mind.
